WORKS

Our farm and land mangement philosphy evolves with the current best global practices available. We consider our land stewardship as one of our highest priorities and we strive to be at the forefront of farming using eco-friendly and technologically enhaced practices where possible.

We use minimum tillage and no-till practices to maintain the integrity of the land. If any fields are designated as HEL, (highly erodible land), contour planting is used to control water runoff in wetter years. We also incorporate DNR (Dept. of Natural Resources) progams such as, filter strips and Pheasants are Forever Grasslands.

In our ever increasing responsibilty as stewards of the soil, our goal is to create optimal fertility for our crops, without creating excessive fertilty that could potentially harm natural waterways. In 2015, Youngblut Farmland Ltd. placed each of it's farms into a cutting edge grid sampling program. Traditionally one sample was taken  every 20 to 30 acre grid, while our new program takes one sample every 2.5 acre grid of each field, giving greater accuracy than before. After each  2.5 acre sample has been anylised at a licensed soil testing facility, a "prescription" is made and the P(potash) and the K (potassium) is spread in the optimal amounts for each grid. To achieve this process Youngblut Farmland has partnered with Spence Fertilizer of La Porte City, Iowa to provide custom fertlizer applications. Spence Fertilizer uses the newest equipment available, making applications with VRT (varialbe rate technology) equipped applicators. We utilize this same techonolgy for lime application if the soil test indicates the ph level requires it.
